GLUE was founded specifically for the lost population of returning citizens and to work preventatively with the youth and young adults in the urban communities. Some of the ways in which this is accomplished is with a variety of programs offered.
Our entire program is focused around bringing about self awareness with offering solutions and support from other returning citizens who have successfully proven that there is life after a felony. With peers proactively engaging adds relatability, inspiration and proven methods that teaches each mentee the value of individualism.
We offer Peer Support groups led by our Mental Health professionals in an effort to offer group sessions, 1 on 1 therapy, outsource referrals and Trauma therapies to address the many mental disorders and/or PTSD that returning citizens are faced with constantly.
GLUE has a program that upon availability offers temporary housing solutions, rental properties and home ownership assistance to our members. We also work in collaboration with organizations who assist in low income housing placement.
Financial literacy is a huge factor for returning citizens for several reasons but mainly because of the limited availability to decent paying jobs once you have a felony and Glue offers seminars and trainings to circumvent some of the hardships that may be encountered initially.
This program uniquely works in conjunction with other professional help being received to uniquely address skills, coping mechanisms and strategies to address any Substance Use behaviors and/or disorders.
We proudly work to reintegrate our members with their families whether it’s their wife, parents, siblings and/ or children. Incarceration definitely impacts the village and breaks up families and we are determined to work on the front end prior to being released from prison to reconnect with loved ones.
In collaboration with local schools, youth programs and the juvenile system we have a variety of exercises and training that we offer at risk youth as a preventative method of possible incarceration. This program is year-round and solely based on the availability of our mentors.
GLUE has its own social enterprises businesses that offer trainings and assistance in a variety of areas for members to be a part of and even to give back within the community.
There are many different courses and training that we offer to those interested in becoming computer savvy. In collaboration with a variety of organizations we offer courses such as computer lessons, how to use a cell phone, surfing the internet, job searching, social media, Microsoft Office, creating an email, and technology.
GLUE goes over and beyond to prevent youth & young adults from entering into the prison system by offering several preventative programs and support youth grades 6-12 and young adults under 21. The basis of this assistance is to offer job skill training, interview preparation, tutoring, high school completion program, literacy training and college preparation.
Experts come in to train and educate about the importance of No meaning No, sexual aggression, STD awareness, HIV/AIDS, condom use, teenage pregnancies for fathers, abstinence and so much more.
GLUE strives to stay involved and aware of what’s going on within the communities as it relates to prison reform, mass incarceration, re-entering citizens programming, government resources and opportunities to collaborate.
